What does a memory assessment involve?

We take great care to tailor our memory clinic appointments according to the needs of the individual. Assessments may include a number of different steps, including:

Standardised assessment questionnaires - Completing a series of different questionnaires. These help us understand your memory difficulties in more detail prior to your consultant appointment

Consultant appointment - A detailed interview with a consultant psychiatrist specialising in memory issues. This includes completing tailored cognitive testing.

Blood tests - We may recommend that some patients have a comprehensive panel of blood tests to detect any metabolic problems which may be contributing to their memory issues.

MRI brain scan - We may recommend that some patients have an MRI brain scan, reported by a specialist doctor. This allows us to see a detailed image of your brain.

Follow-up appointment - We will always offer a follow up appointment with your doctor. During this appointment, you will be able to discuss the findings of your assessment and tests and discuss your options.
